Ecological Consultancy
As birds are particularly susceptible to disturbance during their breeding season they are protected by the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981. Wintering birds are also vulnerable to disturbance and key feeding/roosting areas should be identified during any survey. Any impact should be fully considered before and during any proposed development.
I have an extensive knowledge of ornithological survey techniques and have been contracted by both consultants and conservation bodies to carry out a wide variety of bird surveys. These have included:
Common Bird Censuses including territory mapping
Flight line surveys (vantage point) for wind turbine appraisals
Wintering bird surveys (based on WeBS methodology)
Transect surveys
I have also undertaken a number of barn owl surveys in connection with barn conversion proposals.
On completion of these projects
I have produced detailed survey reports (samples available on request) which have
been subsequently been incorporated into a number of Environmental Impact Assessments.
I
have also been contracted to survey and monitor butterfly and dragonfly
populations at a number of sites and to carry out phase 1 habitat surveys.
